Steering Meetings (Tuesdays & Wednesdays)

 

Come to one or all.  This is where it all happens!  Come see how decisions are made at the Mothers’ Center.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Come listen and share your ideas and/or concerns.  Feel free to bring your favorite munchies to share!  Please note the dates alternate between Tuesday and Wednesday to accommodate your changing schedule.

New Members (Thursdays)

 

In this introductory group, Mothers’ Center facilitators will share with you all that you need to know about the Center and its philosophies.  Topics of conversation may include: mothering experiences, how your baby arrived in your family, friendships and other relationships.

Circle of Caring – Depression During Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression/Anxiety Support Group (Thursdays)

 

“I don’t feel like I thought I would being pregnant…”

“I haven’t been myself since my baby was born…”

“I feel like I am going crazy! Will this ever end?”

The Mother’s Center of the South Shore is offering a peer lead support group for moms experiencing Depression during Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression/Anxiety related to childbearing.  This group offers emotional support, educational information, and coping tools for empowerment to help during this experience.

Challenges of Motherhood (Fridays)

 

As we have all come to learn, mothering can be quite challenging at times!  Please join us for this 8 week discussion group where we will explore various topics that impact the mothers we are and the challenges that we face.

Peer Facilitator Training (PFT)

 

This is the training support group for the women who facilitate the discussion groups.  This is also for those who have completed Intro to PFT.  Topics involve brainstorming and problem solving and are determined by facilitators needs.

Infant/Child CPR & First Aid (Tuesdays)

 

YOU can save your child’s life!!!

Former EMT, Lori Green, will instruct you on what to do while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.   She will also speak about important first aid procedures, such as, what to do in the case of choking, bug bites, broken bones and much more.

Positive Discipline / Challenging Behavior (Tuesday)

 

Positive Discipline supports the theory that ALL disciplinary actions can be implemented in a Positive, non-threatening manner. The ultimate goal is to raise confident and moral children and the method taught here has a greater chance of achieving this goal. Please come prepared with questions and be ready to alter pre-conceived notions about discipline.

Craft Club (Tuesdays)

 

Our new craft club will feature a series of crafts each cycle.  With her degree in fine arts, Maria Rodriguez, will instruct you on how to create your very own jewelry.  Using your unique ideas, Maria will provide you with the materials and the know-how. 

The weekly projects will be 2 pair of earrings, a single strand bracelet, single strand chain necklace and double stranded bracelet.  Maria will create a “kit” for each week, so if you miss a class you can still make your jewelry on your own.

Scrapbooking (Tuesday)

 

Come join Karen Kroll and catch up on some scrap booking.  We will scrap (2) 12x12 pages.  You can choose from "Summer Fun" or "Fall Fun". Please note your choice when you sign up.  Karen will supply all that you need (except pictures) to create a 2 page layout.  Just bring your creativity!

Music Development: How Music Effects Your Child's Brain (Friday)

 

By learning to recognize and consciously implement the exposure to music in your child's life, you can:

Stimulate brain growth in the womb and throughout early childhood.

Improve his language ability, including vocabulary, expressiveness, and ease of communication.

Enhance his social abilities.

Improve his reading, writing, mathematical, and other academic skills, as well as his ability to remember and to memorize.

Come learn more about the positive effects that music can have on your child's development from Mary Lewis, an experienced, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable musician and instructor.

Understanding Your Child’s Temperament:  The Key to Nurturing a Happy Child (Fridays)

 

In this workshop you will learn:

How to improve the quality of fit between you and your child.

Parenting practices that encourage cooperation and reduce daily battles.

How to advocate for your child to improve the quality of fit at home, at school and other environments.

Walk for Autism (Sunday)

 

Walk with your friends from the Mothers’ Center for a great cause.  Experience the power of thousands united by a single cause by joining Walk Now for Autism.

Walk Now for Autism offers everyone a fun-filled experience with entertainment, refreshments, an autism community resource fair, and much, much more.  Be sure to raise $100 to earn your commemorative Walk Now for Autism t-shirt.

Get ready for fun!  The children will get to pick their own pumpkin from our very own “pumpkin patch” and then decorate it.  The children will be playing games and of course we’ll have some goodies too.

Passionate about music and the development of children, Miss Mary creates a fun, informal environment that makes making music fun for the whole family! Take home an understanding of how to play musically with your child, regardless of your musical background.  For ages birth-4 years of age.

Me & My Mommy

Storytime Craft 18 Months – 2 ½  Years (Mondays)

Enjoy stories, finger play, music and games with your toddler.  Each week’s activities will center around a different age-appropriate theme. Your child will make a related craft to take home.
